Basements were primarily used for utility space, laundry and storage rather than bedrooms and living areas.
Egress Windows must meet specific size requirements to be considered safe and compliant.
Codes are carefully designed to allow easy egress of occupants and to facilitate the ingress of emergency personnel
These requirements differ by municipality, but generally, the Minnesota Building Code suggests that egress windows should have:
– An opening width of at least 20 inches
– An opening height of at least 24 inches
– A net clear opening of at least 5.7 square feet if above ground level or 5.0 square feet if at ground level or lower
– A sill height no more than 44 inches from the floor
We will consult local building authorities on your behalf to ensure compliance with all relevant codes in your area.
Our installation team is experienced with all types of egress window installations, and over the years, we have installed over 1,000 egress window projects.
